As part of the Cambridge University Alumni Festival, we invited a small group of alumni to see ‘behind the scenes’ at the Institute.
Guests were welcomed by Institute Director, Professor Austin Smith, who gave an introduction to topical areas of stem cell research. They then visited working labs for a chance to see the techniques and equipment used to lead to new discoveries. The group were fascinated by the use of organoids (mini-organs) as disease models in the Koo lab and enjoyed attempting some every-day laboratory procedures with the Hendrich group.
To end the vist, Professor Robin Franklin spoke about the future of research at the Institute and what we hope to achieve in the near future.
It was a pleasure to meet such interested and engaged members of the Cambridge community and to hear such enthusiasm for our work:
"What impressed me most was the commitment of the people here and the huge strides you are making … I would love to come back in 20 years and see where you have got to!"
