Inside out: unpredicted Annexin A2 localisation on the surface of extracellular vesicles

Moreau’s group (Institute of Metabolic Science) in collaboration with Pluchino’s group (Clinical Neuroscience/Stem Cell Neurobiology) have shown an unpredicted localisation of Annexin A2 on the surface of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in a new open-access journal called Science Matters.

This observation raises fundamental questions regarding protein trafficking as such cytosolic proteins should only reside in the lumen of EVs. They are now investigating the transport mechanism of Annexin A2 on EVs surface and study its potential functions in biology and medicine.
