George Vassiliou is Professor of Haematological Medicine at the University of Cambridge and Consultant Haematologist at Cambridge University Hospitals. He was born and raised in Cyprus and moved to the UK to study Medicine at the Royal London Hospital. He trained as a Haematologist in London and Cambridge and obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2005. He went on to investigate the pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukaemia and related blood cancers at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where he became a member of faculty and set up his research team in 2011. In 2019 he was recruited into his current position at the University of Cambridge and moved his laboratory to the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute.
