Title: “Clonal evolution in the germline”
This seminar is sponsored by Singleron Biotechnologies
Shosei Yoshida studies mouse spermatogenesis and spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) at the National Institute for Basic Biology (NIBB) in Okazaki, Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tokyo in 1991 and obtained his PhD there in 1995.
He began his research on germ cells as an assistant professor at Osaka University in 1996 and subsequently moved to Kyoto University, before establishing his own laboratory at NIBB in 2008.
The germline is the only cell lineage that transmits genetic information to the next generation, making its clonal dynamics crucial for both the continuity of life and the inheritance of genetic variation.
In this seminar, Prof. Yoshida will discuss two lines of their research on germline clonal evolution and transmission: germline clonal dynamics from development to the next generation revealed by DNA barcoding, and the fate of SSC clones harbouring de novo driver mutations within the testis and across generations.
