Vasilia Tamamouna

Dr Vasilia Tamamouna is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI), University of Cambridge, where her research focuses on Clonal Haematopoiesis (CH), Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), stem cell biology, and cancer. She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Cyprus with distinction, following undergraduate and master's degrees in Biological Sciences and Experimental Molecular Biology. Her research combines molecular biology, genetics, and genome engineering approaches to investigate the mechanisms underlying disease progression. Prior to joining Cambridge, she held postdoctoral positions at the Centre for the Study of Haematological Malignancies (CSHM), Karaiskakio Foundation, where she led research on therapeutic vulnerabilities in AML and contributed to CRISPR-Cas9 functional genomic studies in breast cancer and neuroblastoma. 

Dr Tamamouna has secured competitive research funding as Principal Investigator, including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship and grants from the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation. Her research excellence has been recognised through several prestigious awards, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, the Research and Innovation Foundation Young Scientist Award in Life Sciences, and the Madame Figaro "Woman of the Year 2023" award in the Scientists/Academics category. In 2024, she represented Cyprus at the United Nations Office at Geneva exhibition Breaking Barriers in Science, highlighting the contributions of women in scientific research.
