Biography

Charlotte earned her degree in Biology in Bristol in 2014. She spent a year as a microbiologist in the Pharma industry but soon realised her interests were in academic research. This brought her to the Wellcome Sanger Institute in 2015, where she first worked within the cancer genomics programme, developing skills in tissue culture, drug testing and organoid work. She then moved to the parasites and microbes programme, where she was involved in projects investigating different pathogens including Vibrio cholerae (cholera), Treponema pallidum (syphilis), Trypanosoma brucei (trypanosomiasis), Schistosoma mansoni (schistosomiasis) and Trichuris spp (trichuriasis), which brought her to the Duque-Correa group at CSCI in 2022. Charlotte is the lab manager of the team. Within the group, she leads on multiple projects and collaborations, studying the host-parasite interactions of whipworms in the gut utilising both in vivo and in vitro models as well as an extensive range of cellular and molecular biology techniques.
