Dr Fotios Sampaziotis joins our research team as a new Principal Investigator. His research looks to develop bioengineered spare organ parts which could help repair and regenerate damaged organs.
Fotios Sampaziotis will lead his research for the next four years with support from the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship scheme. Future Leaders Fellowships support talented people in research and innovation environments, allowing universities and businesses to develop their most talented early career researchers and innovators or to attract new people to their organisations, including from overseas.
UKRI Chief Executive, Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser, said:
“I am delighted that UKRI is able to support the next generation of research and innovation leaders through our Future Leaders Fellowship programme. The new Fellows will have the support and freedom they need to pursue their research and innovation ideas, delivering new knowledge and understanding and tackling some of the greatest challenges of our time.”
Fotios says:
"Having trained in the CSCI, I can confidently say I couldn’t have hoped for a better home for my research. The Institute brings together leading scientists from different disciplines providing endless opportunities for collaboration and growth. Part of my work aims to transform regenerative therapies from research prototypes to clinical products and the CSCI is the optimal environment to achieve this goal, with strong links to Addenbrooke’s hospital, the clinical trials unit and the co-habitation with the Milner Institute. Above all, the work ethos, mentoring opportunities and collegiate atmosphere make the CSCI one of the most welcoming and supportive places for a young PI. I am very grateful to the UKRI for the opportunity to be here and I am looking forward to keeping up the institute’s track record of pushing boundaries and delivering disruptive, high quality research."
We are over the moon on Fotios's behalf for his acheivement in becoming a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, as in his words, it is, "one of the few schemes funding ambitious multidisciplinary research at the academia and industry interphase, with unique mentoring and networking support. I am really looking forward to the next 4 years!" We are also delighted that he joins the team of talented principal investigators, postdocs, PhD students and affiliates and are looking forward in anticipation of future findings from the Sampaziotis lab.
