About
After studying microbiology in Birmingham and Electron Microscopy in Aberystwyth, Darran began his career in microscopy at UCL, becoming the confocal microscopy core facility manager before moving to confocal applications roles at Leica then Olympus. Darran currently manages the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute Advanced Imaging Facility, overseeing light microscopy, electron microscopy, and histology. These facilities include lightsheet, confocal, widefield, high throughput and spatial imaging equipment. He is passionate about pushing the boundaries of imaging technologies and solving technical problems to enable and support cutting-edge biomedical research.
Currently, Darran is involved in several internal seed-funded projects, including the development of a novel correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) workflow. He also working on expanding the usable fluorophore palette on our confocal systems through both hardware and software innovation—efforts aimed at enhancing multiplexing capabilities for complex biological samples.
