Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute

Dr Harry Bulstrode joins team of Principal Investigators

Dr Harry Bulstrode joins us this week (1 February) as a Principal Investigator researching neural stem cells in relation to development, regeneration and cancer.

Dr Bulstrode joins us most recently from the Francis Crick Institute, where he studied glioma stem cell biology and the tumour microenvironment in malignant gliomas.

CSCI Director Bertie Göttgens comments on Dr Bulstrode’s appointment:

“I am delighted to welcome Harry as a new group leader in the CSCI. Harry joins us from the Crick Institute in London but will be known to many already from his previous postdoc time in Cambridge. Harry's wide-ranging scientific interests are a perfect fit for the collaborative nature of our research community.”

Dr Bulstrode joins the 28 other Principal Investigators currently at CSCI, working in collaboration with the 37 Affiliated PIs from Institutes around Cambridge and the UK.

On joining the team, Dr Bulstrode comments:

“My lab will be studying neural stem cells and their microenvironment interactions, in brain development, cancer and neurodegeneration. Clinically, I will provide stereotactic neurosurgery services, including targeted delivery of novel cell and gene therapies as these enter human trials.

I’m very excited at the expertise, facilities and collaborations which will be possible within CSCI, and across the whole Cambridge Biomedical Campus. I can’t think of a better place to study the biology underpinning clinical questions, and to try to take the results back to patients.”
