Cambridge Stem Cell Institute

This award recognises our efforts to help reduce the environmental impact within our world-leading research facilities at the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre.

Our Green Impact team here at the Centre were very pleased to be recipients of the Silver Award in the Green Impact Awards 2021. Since achieving a bronze award in their first year, the team have worked hard to set up stationary recycling schemes, publicise the University's existing WEEE recycling scheme, and educate staff on issues through regular updates in weekly bulletins as well as an informative seminar on lab sustainability.

The JCBC Green Impact Team was established in 2019 and is made up of staff and students across all the departments in the building. A representative from the University's Environment and Energy team was particularly impressed with how the team adapted to new ways of working and their commitment to Green Impact, despite the challenges of the past year.

Our team members would like to thank everyone involved for their contributions. They were particularly grateful to Building Services who continue to assist where they can, as well as staff and students for a number of helpful suggestions. Going forward, the team has some exciting projects planned such as, cutting energy usage within the building (currently over 500 times the average UK household!), reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable choices outside of the lab.

If you would like to make a difference we'd like you to be involved! Please contact green-impact@jcbc.cam.ac.uk
