Cambridge Science Festival - Open Science (For the public)

As the ‘new kids on the block’ down on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus we’re opening our doors for the first time at Cambridge Science Festival.

Our building, which opened in Summer 2019, encompasses an impressive variety of scientific research from stem cells, to infectious disease and cancer biology. Our researchers investigate Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cardiovascular disease and blood cancers and lead development of new therapies to treat disease.

Lab tours

  • Sign up on the day; first-come-first-served
  • Tours will run every 15 minutes from 11:00 - 15:15
  • A chance to see experiments in action in one of our research laboratories. 

Ask a scientist...

  • Drop in
  • Chat to a researcher over a coffee in our cafe about their science.
  • Run in collaboration with Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute

Science speed-dating

  • Sign up on the day; first-come-first-served
  • 30-minute sessions with four 'dates' with a research scientist.
  • Session times; 13:00 - 13:30 and 13:30 - 14:00

Career hot-desk

  • Drop in
  • Informal advice for those considering a career in science; where to study, what to consider, how to get experience.

Hands-on activities

  • Drop in
  • 10 hands-on exhibits for all ages
  • Run in collaboration with Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute

Art exhibition

  • Kettle's Yard commissioned artworks by Victoria Morton, Harold Offeh and Kelly Briggs.
  • Bottisham School competition - display of winning entries.
  • Run in collaboration with Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease 

Cafe

We will be serving refreshments all day from our café.

Open Science is hosted by the Wellcome – MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and the Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (residents of Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre) with support from our neighbours at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.
